Stuart and I had lunch next to the forested Mt Pole, which Stuart, Robin and John had surveyed for suitability a couple of years ago. From the road it looked very good. Here's a photo from the suitability survey.On the sign next to the Forest it said that it was owned by Matariki Forests and managed by Rayonier. Does any of you have contacts here and can help us out with access (or a contactperson) to have another look at the area. It used to be owned by Carter Holt. Rayonier / Mataraki manage the Hanmer Forest and we already have a good relationship with them and have previously discussed mapping other areas (eg Balmoral for which we gained permission for further investigation and Okuku Pass, which would have been excellent, but is to be felled fairly soon).
Where is Mt Pole? It's not in my copy of the LINZ list of NZ placenames.
Mt Pole is just down from Mt Cass in the North West direction almost at the buttom close to a minor road which is heading to the highway.
